Workers at BHP operations in South America took their concerns about the way the company has treated employees to investors, telling them about BHP's mishandling of the Covid-19 crisis in Chile and Columbia that has left workers in squalid conditions without medical attention or even sufficient food.
Contractors have been particularly hard hit, and in most South American countries there is no legal or regulatory framework to assist workers fighting abuse from companies such as BHP, Glencore and other multinational giants.
