Farewell from Andrew Vickers

Published: 29 Sep 2017

A message from our retiring General Secretary Andrew Vickers:

After 36-years as a full-time Union official I am retiring at the end of September this year.

I have been honoured to serve as a Lodge Official and District Board of Management member; Queensland District President from 1981 to the end of 2006; General Vice-President from 2007 to 2009; and since then as General Secretary of our Union.

When I entered the Industry at the end of 1971, I never imagined that I would end up retiring as a National Official of this great Union. It has been a great privilege to represent coal and metal miners, energy and port workers, their families and their communities and I sincerely hope that the faith you have displayed in me over all those years has proven to have been worth it.

I want to thank you all for the generous support you have given me on that journey and wish you and your families all the best into the future.

National Office staff bid Andrew a fond farewell
