Show your support for Tahmoor mining jobs

Published: 6 Jan 2021

The proposed Tahmoor South mine extension is open for public comment to NSW's Independent Planning Commission.

Our Union is supporting the extension as it would secure hundreds of existing Southern District coal mining jobs for the next decade and we hope you will support it too.

If the extension does not go ahead, the current mining operations at Tahmoor are expected to be completed by 2022.

The Tahmoor South mine extension would secure the 400 direct jobs at Tahmoor Coal for another 10 years until 2032, along with hundreds of other jobs in the local community. It would also create over 170 new jobs during the two-year construction phase.

We are confident SIMEC’s plan addresses community concerns and meets stringent environmental requirements. The plan has been amended to reduce the longwall footprint and include greater protections for native vegetation and water resources.

The mine extension will inject millions of dollars into the local economy over the next decade.

Mining has successfully coexisted with southern coalfield communities for well over a century and it should continue to do so into the future.
