Andrew Vickers is the General Secretary of CFMEU Mining & Energy Division and Vice President of the CFMEU. Andrew was elected Secretary by a vote of all mining and energy members of the CFMEU in May 2009. He was first employed in the coal mining industry in 1971 at the Goonyella mine in central Queensland (then owned by Utah Development of the USA; now owned and managed by BHP Billiton). Andrew was soon elected to the position of Lodge (Branch) Secretary and then to the Queensland Board of Management of the union. In January 1981 he was elected Queensland District President and held that position continuously through to 2006. He became national Vice-President from January 2007, and held that post until being elected General Secretary.
